Sometimes politicians say things that get misconstrued or twisted... like the rest of us. So do journalists. But writers need to be extra careful when covering politics if they're trying not to show bias, or they can come up with some pretty hilarious gaffes.
Case in point: This quote from a BBC News anchor during his intro to yesterday morning's 8 a.m. newscast, as he talked about Hurricane Gustav's affect on the Republican National Convention:
Political punchlines aside, I don't think the anchor was aware of the double entendre as it left his mouth. The following hour, the word “Republicans” was changed to “politicians.”
